I've seen Zoomtext work well with pdf files.  Sometimes it might gain an
advantage over plain acrobat reader because it expands and colors the cursor
along with the contrast features.  In addition, there may be files where its
magnification is superior to the Acrobat Reader functions (for example font
smoothing).  Reader is FREE, however. . .

Adobe Acrobat reader has magnification built into it.  Just press Ctrl+(plus
sign) to magnify and Ctrl+(minus) to make smaller.
