Butch,

I got mine from HRO's New Hampshire store. The guy who took my order
installed the VS3 voice synthe for me with no problem and no extra charge.
And, the shipping is a lot cheaper than the 8% sales tax, Lol.

As far as usability, I don't know of a more accessible rig.

I haven't played with the Icom 746Pro but I wouldn't be surprised if Icom's
DSP implementation isn't a little bit better. But, the TS-2000 certainly is
a feature-rich rig. I used it on FD this year with another station and even
on the same band, it's front-end was fairly well-behaved as long as we
weren't with 15KHz of each other.

I'm probably not the expert on the DSP stuff yet. I've played with some of
the basic functions such as band-pass and tailoring the audio width of the
receiver and transmitter filters, but not much more. Frankly, I haven't
been jumping up and down about the Digital Noise Reduction in the 2000,
either I'm not using it correctly or it just ain't that hot. But, certainly
can't complain about all the other features, band flexibility, and
interface.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Subject: kenwood ts 2000

I'm getting closer to buying the 2000. I'm also considering the icom. In
what little playing with the two rigs, I actually think the d s p in the
icom is a little better, but I've always had kenwoods, and I'm leaning
toward the 2000 as the voice synthesizer gives more info, menus and so
forth. Any thoughts please.

Also, does anyone have a good recommendation as to where to purchase, some
place where you can talk to a person and ask questions and not feel like
they want to get rid of you or just take your order and mmoney?

I called the local a e s store here in Vegas and asked about the computer
port. The guy said "we don't have any technitians here, you'll have to
call Kenwood." I said I had tried that but they were in training. He
said "yes, they'll be back next week." I then asked if anyone there could
help and he said "no, we don't have any techs here." And, I'm supposed to
buy from these guys. They are a little higher than some and I'd have to
pay 8 percent sales tax besides. I don't think so. I'm looking at the
2000 x with the 1.2 satellite module installed. Best quote I've found so
far is 2249.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
