I have an older Packard Bell PC (Multimedia S606) with a failing power supply. I thought I’d try to swap it out with a new one and have encountered some problems.
Since the existing power supply is the same size as a standard ATX PS, I ordered an inexpensive ATX replacement with enough connectors to run my two hard drives, floppy, CD, and CD burner. But once I got under the hood of the Packard Bell, I discovered the old power supply is hardwired to the case’s power switch. My new power supply has no such switch wire…only a pair of terminals apparently designed to plug directly into the motherboard.
Is there a way to adapt or rewire my new power supply to work in my Packard Bell? Considering the age of this model, I really don’t want to sink much more money into it.
