I'm trying to settle on a processor / mobo combo
for a home-built system. I've been leaning towards
AMD, but my son's friend has made the following
argument for P4's:

He says the Athlons currently hold a slight
price-performance edge over th P4's, but that
1) P4's will be getting better, and 2) the current
Athlon sockets won't be able to support much
more speed, but that Intel recently switched
over to a new socket that has lots of headroom.

He also specificallly recommended Soyo for
the P4, and also said he thought Gigabyte
was good.

(His information is second hand, but he's a pretty
sensible kid.)

Any comments?

Thanks.
