I am upgrading an IBM Aptiva 2176-442 computer and having problem with my newly installed video card. I installed a 4GB hard drive and upgraded to Windows 98SE. I installed a Paradise Pipeline PCI video card which has a WD9710-ZH chipset. I downloaded the proper drivers and installed on my machine.
This model had an onboard video chip which can not be disabled from the setup utility. I found that the device can be disabled by removing the jumper from JP37, which I did. No problem.
I installed the new video card on the riser board and installed the proper drivers. When I start my machine I get a message that "Display adapter disabled".The displayer Adapter window reads, "This device is disabled (Code 22)
You can not enable this device because it has been disabled by a Windows driver.
The Pipeline driver shows when this message appears.
I shut down my machine. When I restarted, I pressed F1 which took me to my setup utility. When I moved down to video equipment, it read that I had a Video Controller Western Digital In with 2 MB of memory. I then moved down to the Advanced Options. It read:
1. PCI-1 card bus mastering [Enabled]
2.  PCI-2 card bus mastering [Disabled}
When I checked my Device Manager it showed the Pipeline device with a Red X.
I continued to change the Card Bus Mastering selections until I reached [Disabled] and [Disabled]. When I went back to the Device Manager it showed the Pipeline working fine. I went to my Control Panel, Display, and changed my settings to show True Colors 32 bit and everything was running fine. I saved my settings. When I started my machine the next day, it was the same as I stated at the beginning. 16 colors, and the same error messages. I tried the same setup again and nothing worked. I am at a loss and really need help.
Hope I gave you enough information. Thank you all in advance for any help you can give. Jack
