Thanks to all who responded about my '8mb of unallocated space' query. Bill and Frank supplied references which seem to indicate that this is normal.
So I ignored it and went on with the install. Everything seems to be fine.

Hello Ian:
I had just ecentely formated a 120 Gig Maxtor using their MaxBlast software
and I had the same results ,It gave me a message that it needed the 8MB to
store settings in ,so after trying to get rid of it just left it alone. This
is the first time I have seen it also .Hope this helps
