You did not say if you are using your computer for older DOS programs, if
you do please post more information. If not, start SYSEDIT.EXE and change
your Config.sys:
Delete everything except the line about Himem.sys or put REM before
everything you donīt need, and in Autoexec.bat, remove everything or comment
them out with REM and leave this line:
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
This will give you a clean start-up boot. Another example, here are my
start up files from my Win98SE machine, they include a generic CD driver in
Config.sys and sound card setup.
Config.sys:
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:ON /V
FCBSHIGH=1
LASTDRIVEHIGH=Z
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,3712 =C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS /V
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,40800 =C:\WINDOWS\OAKCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001 /V
Autoexec.bat:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\TEMP
