Hi,
I'm a new member to the celiac-diabetes list. I am wondering if anyone
has had the same experience as me. I'm 26 years old and was diagnosed
with type 1 diabetes at the age of 18. Even after being diagnosed with
diabetes I still wasn't feeling the greatest, lots of stomach problems,
gas. bloating, etc... When I was 24 things started taking a turn for
the worst. I began getting a number of canker sores in my mouth that
wouldn't go away. Eventually these canker sores turned into oral ulcers
and my mouth, lips and face started to swell up. My stomach was
constantly upset and after numerous trips to the doctor with no results,
I thought I was going to be like this forever. After a year of death
knocking symptoms, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. I tested
positive with the blood test screening and then was later diagnosed with
a biopsy. At the time the Doctor's and I thought that this was the
cause of all these symptoms with my mouth and stomach. I immediately
started a GF diet and began feeling a bit better but definitely not a
100%. I was told that it can take a long time to recover from
undiagnosed Celiac disease. So I tried to wait patiently for my body to
recover. At first things looked like they were getting better. My
swelling had come down my face and was just localized around my mouth
area. But then everything stopped getting better. My lips starting
swelling larger and my mouth lining started to buckle and become like
cobblestone. Under the left side of my bottom lip, a hole develop that
goes right through. When I eat or drink anything it starts to "leak".
I have been to every type of specialist there is in Ottawa, Ontario. I
keep hearing the same thing, no one has ever seen anything like this!
If anyone has experienced anything like this or knows of a similar
situation, please email me. I really don't know what to do now and any
suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks,
Judith :o)
