I am using ilink 3.35 with Windoweyes 4.1. It is quite usable but there are
many improvements which could be made to make it easier for a blind person to use.
After installing the software and validating your call you normally start the
program and go to the begin menu with alt-b. If the program contacts
the server successfully you are placed in a listbox containing anywhere from
200 to 300 entries consisting of a callsign with description/location.
You can use alt-f to get to the find edit box where you can type in a text
string ssuch as a callsign. If found, the item is highlighted. You can also
use the arrow keys to move through the list. To connect you press tab then
enter. To transmit press space then space again to receive. One annoying thing
about the program is the stations get refreshed every two minutes. During
this time the mouse review keys won't work and you will be placed at the
beginning of the new list with possibly different entries and you get to start
your search all over again. It would be nice if the user could choose to have
program sort the list according to call so you could type w and find the first
w call. As it is now, calls are in random order, maybe its sorted according to
how long stations have been connected. There are three types of connections
you can make. You can connect from PC to PC, PC to a link or repeater indicated
by a -l or -r after the call, or a conference where several people can be
connected at once. These groups may be different colors. Might be nice if
there was separate listbox for each type. If someone connects to you while in
listbox you have to get focus back to main window with alt-f4
I believe, alt-tab ... won't work. Otherwhise pressing space does nothing and
you won't be heard. Sometimes it can be difficult to know if you are
transmitting. If you use your mouse review keys near the bottom you will find tx
and rx below that. Then further down are two sets of numbers indicating
packets sent or received. If the first number is increasing you are
transmitting and if the lower is increasing you are receiving. Occasionally
the program seems to mute soundcard so nothing will be heard. You can check
now and then by trying to move mouse pointer outside window to see if you can
hear error beep.
