I replied to this previously, but my message may have gotten lost in the
internet.
Not too long ago, I had linux installed on a disk that I later decided to
install Windows on. I had major problems with the machine even booting.
It would always stop at a message about the GRUB loader. It turns out that
GRUB is installed on master boot record (MBR) of the drive. The way I
solved the problem was to run FDISK /MBR which wrote a fresh copy of the
MBR. That could be what your computer guy did. You can find more
