WD drive doesn't like to be master alone, the Master jumper means "master
with slave" unless you set the jumper to be "single drive only master", that
could be the unstable problem. Try set WD jumper to cable select, and use
the following setup:
WD on card IDE 1 as cable select (will be detected as master)
Maxtor on card IDE 2 as master
all your CD drives on mobo IDE as the way you like.
