Yeah, I see a connection too. IIRC, I posted maybe a link to an article re:
a supposed connection many months ago. It should be in the archives, but
I'm too lazy to go searching for it.
I know several people who are in one Twelve-Step recovery program or
another, or sometimes in both AA & NA because of alcohol or addiction
problems. In coming off their drugs of choice, many turn a voracious spoon
to ice cream in particular but other high-carb foods as well. Appears to me
that they are unknowingly self-medicating via substitution with high-carb
foods. One man was given the sobriquet "Candy Man" for the huge bags of
candy he took to meetings to share. Another now-deceased friend, an
ex-Marine captain with 20+ years of being clean and sober, ate a quart of
ice cream every single night. Thassalottaicecream.
