No, I didn't. That was the test that proved that the term Jew always
refers to the Jewish religion, whether or not it also refers to culture
or anything else. The test is this. If a Jew becomes a Catholich, is
he or she still a Jew? The answer is no, because, to use your term, the
idea that one can be both a Jew and a Catholic is "ridiculous." So when
the forces that be claim Israel is a Jewish state, whatever else they
mean by Jewish, they certainly mean that the Jewish religion is part of
what makes Israel a Jewish state.

Yes, I do understand the difference. The difference is irrelevent.
"Nationalism based on religious pretexts" is definitely what is not
allowed in a state implementing the concept of separation of church and
state. Zionism is Jewish nationalism is nationalism based on religious
pretexts is state religion.

No. Not all Jewish people, not all religious Jews. The citizens of
Israel aren't doing enough to dispel the widely held belief that Israel
is a Jewish state. One of the things they can do is state publically,
in writing, in their constitution: "Israel is not a Jewish state."
Another thing they can do is eliminate all privileges that apply only to
Jews, lie the Right of Return for Jews, etc. A third thing they can do
is to allow all the people they expelled from Israel to retur with full
citizenship. Compensation would be good, too. When they do those
things, then they can claim Israel is not a Jewish state and expect
people to believe it.

Yes, obviously.
