doesn't that interrupt the natural recharging of the ground water?

Subject: Does drinking roof water give you shingles?
When we built my parents house on the land we purchased to set up a family
estate, we found out that drilling for natural gas (we are over the
prehistoric alluvial fan) in this area had ruined the ground water. When the
well shafts are "fracted" it causes fissures that let the old sea water
migrate up into the fresh water table. Bummer.
We built their house with a cistern in the basement that was lined with pine
tar. It's been great. The only thing we have done is added a reverse osmosis
water filter to remove the iodine (the system uses an iodizer to kill the
little bacterial critters and such) from the drinking water.
We did have a little problem the year the seventeen year locusts filled up
the system and turned the water green. No real danger since it smelled so
bad no one would even consider drinking it.
We're actually designing our own house so the water will come out of the sky
and go back into it after we use it. Zero ground water impact.
Rudy
