I have a Compaq 5660 computer which got infected by a virus. In order
to get rid of the virus I ran the Quick Restore disk, Full Restore
function.
Right after that my floppy disk drive stopped working. I ran the Full
Restore once again, to no avail. Because of the high pitch noise the
floppy drive caused, I believe it was a hardware problem (I got this computer in
1998).
I went to Comp USA and I purchased their '3.5" floppy drive bonus kit' and
I installed it. The bonus was a cable and 2 faceplates.
HOWEVER, the drive will not read other disks I have recorded before.
First it get a message to the effect that the disk is not formatted, then the
query if I want it formatted - and then the disk is unreadable/corrupted and
cannot be formatted.
Any suggestions as to what I can do? Are there different types of
floppy disk drives?
Thank you so much for any and all assistance. I appreciate it.
