If you boot up into dos, your network drivers basically are not loaded, so if you pinging in dos mode will not work. Go into windows and thenopen up a dos window, and try pinging 127.0.0.1. You can also run a winipcfg from dos and see if anything comes up. If you do not get an ip configuration window, most likely tcpip or your network card is damaged.
