Can someone provide me with some ideas/information that will solve a problem I am having with a new Abit KT7A motherboard, that I am using for my latest system. Specs: AMD Althon 1.1Gig, 256 SDRAM, Hercules Prophet Ti graphics card and Adaptec SCSI-2 2940UW Host Adapter (for CDROM and Zip Drive), Win98 OS.
After the initial boot up I can not manually reboot the system using the reset button or from the Bios setup menu; the screen blanks out and stays that way. And after the first boot, restarting the system with the power on button only works about 1/3 of the time. The system will reboot fine using software, but the only way I can reboot manually is to use the on/off switch for the power unit. I have swapped out the video card and power unit; I have checked and rechecked the LED connections at the motherboard; I have searched the bios menu
for any setting that I thought would contribute to the situation. I even replaced the original Abit MB for a new one, with same results. I have not replaced the PC case, but it is new out of the box. This is occurring with only the noted hardware and Windows98 OS installed. The VIA 4 in 1 Drivers were not installed, as this problem presented with the first system boot.
