I would like to thank everyone who weighed in in this
topic. At this point I do think it has become a
bacterial infection (have to beat on my chest to clear
out - as one would with a CF patient, sinus pressure
yields decidedly non-clear mucus, etc.). The doctor is
not really an option at the moment. I got
prescriptions in college for a similar condition - a
very strong antibiotic and guiathin (sp?), a
decongestant. I was better in 5 days. I had the same
horrid infection last winter and went med-less. I was
better in --- 5 days.
And yep, I'm sure the original cause was dust mites.
It just got cold here in eastern NC a few days ago,
which means the heater (I did vacuum it out before
turning it on, but not sure it helped), blankets, etc.
I see laundry in my future. Ugh. Anyone know where I
can get an anti-dust-mite mattress cover??
I have also been eating horribly, paleo-wise. I get
pretty cranky when I am sick, so I don't cook. I got
up the gumption to cook bacon & eggs for breakfast.
Coffee & non-dairy creamer (don't ask). Some
splenda-sweetened soda. I kinda forgot to eat until
dinner. I planned to prepare meatballs & spaghetti
squash. The squash didn't cook, so I fixed pasta for
the family (used it up - yay!). Then I discovered that
the spaghetti sauce had corn syrup = a whopping 21g
carb per 1/2 c. So my dinner consisted of meatballs
(prepared with milk & bread crumbs, yuk) and salad
with ranch dressing. Then pork rinds with sour cream
dip. Then 3/5 of an Atkins Endulge bar. Not exactly
healing foods.
After my chest beating episodes throughout the night,
I don't think I'll cook today at all. If we go to the
Chinese buffet I should be alright as long as I don't
OD on cornstarch & soy sauce.
I also have one more question - can anyone recommend a
good, healing herbal tea? I have been drinking
Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer and Chamomile/Honey
Vanilla, by the gallon practically. Don't know
anything about the cultivated vs. paleo properties of
the herbs, or their healing properties - I just prefer
hot drinks to plain water when I am this miserable.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
