Hi,

sounds defective - depending on 802 standard used, the range should be from
100 to 300 ft.
I suggest taking it back to purchase point for exchange.

One possible idea, try mounting it as high up in the room as you can get.
I use a Lynksys Ap router and have it mounted on a high shelf on my wall,
within 6 inches of the ceiling.  No problem getting signal anywhere in the
house.
