A few years back at the preservation conference in Miami I was shooting the
breeze with John Freeman, the colorist. We were discussing ways for
preservationeers to go out, and this is what we came up with for me:

My casket would be a hollow stave-built wooden column with an Ionic capital.
The casket and I would be cremated. One of my mason buddies would use the
ashes as an additive in the mortar or concrete of a preservation project.

Lately it seems like this is actually becomming my plan, as I have carved an
Ionic capital and attached it to an old fluted shaft and stored the whole
works up in the rafters of my barn.

John
