I posted that according to the responses I received, the risk for lymphoma is considered very small and reverted to that of the normal population (even smaller) if one followed a gf diet faithfully. I then received a post from a man who has battled lymphoma since his diagnosis. He pointed out that there are several other factors involved: age at diagnosis and extent of intestinal damage for example. If one is not diagnosed until middle age, the risk is much greater. Also, he found that medication for blood pressure that had been prescribed by seemingly knowledgable doctors did contain gluten upon investigation. So ,while a person may think that they are following the gf diet faithfully, such may not be the case. Another medication was harmful to the immune system, also increasing the risk for lymphoma. He very firmly believes that the risk of lymphoma must not be minimized, though doctors do so because they do not want to alarm patients newly diagnosed with CD. I thought it was important to pass that information along. Nancy in So. Oregon
