Debbie's suggestion in her post "Let's Get the Word Out" (8/16) is a
good one. Do think seriously about sending Oprah Winfrey an e-mail
message.

Oprah's topic for Friday, August 16th, was "When Should I Have a
Baby?" The show focused on age and fertility. Since infertility
increases with age the program dealt with infertility.

Oprah's show is still featured on the home page at
http://www.oprah.com You can click on the topic and get more detailed
information. Also on the home page is a link to "E-mail." There
are a number of e-mail options and the e-mail about the show is
toward the bottom of the page. Clicking on the "E-mail to Us--The
Oprah Winfrey Show" links you to the form for e-mail and you can send
your message. This is very easy to do and you can send her a brief,
to the point, message without a lot of hassle. Our messages should
be different/individualized, but do put include Celiac Disease and
infertility as the SUBJECT of your message--Celiac Disease needs to
be visible there just in case messages are not read individually.
Key related points include the following:
-Suggest that Oprah do a show on Celiac Disease as education
(public and professional) is desperately needed.
-Celiac Disease can be a cause of infertility. Women with
infertility problems should be screened for Celiac Disease. They are
in Europe, but not in the United States.
-A current study estimates that the incidence of Celiac
Disease is 1 in 150 persons in the United States. Celiac Disease is
frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed. Public and professional
education is needed.

Thanks again to Debbie for her post. Do take a few minutes and send
an e-mail to Oprah this weekend.
