Somebody raised the generic question "What can I eat from the grocery store
that's Paleo?" And then more or less answered it by saying that foods today
probably bear little resemblance to their paleo ancestors.
Somebody else mentioned to stick with onions, etc, etc.
I just want to say that wild onions grow in abundance where I live. And I
do mean abundance. They're considered weeds. I'm assuming they are just
about as paleo as an onion could be these millennia later. And,
correspondingly, I'm assuming grocery store onions are probably just about
as far from paleo as an onion could be these millennia later.
The wild bulbs NEVER get larger than a pearl/cocktail-sized onion. The
green tops grow quite tall, are slightly bluish-green and are cylindrical
but very small diameter (much smaller than the store-bought/home-grown
kind), and much tougher, more fibrous, than the tender green onions we're
accustomed to. I used to dig them and cook with them back in 1981. Now I
think I will start using them again. They smell quite pungent but the taste
is, surprisingly, not particularly strong.
