Hi,
There are commercial J poles.  They role up and will fit in to a pocket and
work just as well as the ones we make and put in to pvc pipes.  I am not
sure who makes them, but AES has them and I would suspect others do too.
They are usually made of 300ohm twin lead instead of 450ohm ladder line.
I have used both kinds and really like them.
