180 mgr DHA + 120mgr EPA = 300mgr.
300 mgr X 10 = 3 grams.
Maths has never been my strong point either but I think this is right.
If your capsules had 500mgr EPA/DHA then you would only need to take 6
capsules.
3 gr was the minimal therapeutic dose. The range was 3-6 grams depending on
the severity of the disorder and individual response

I think maybe the keyword of your message is *actual* EPA/DHA per 1,000 mg
fish oil cap. At least this is what I'm focusing on--but my focus could be
off.
Or my math. I've never been very numerically competent, so maybe I'm
computing things wrong here, but if *actual* amount of EPA/DHA is what is
important, then by my calculations the example numbers you cite fall short
of 3 gms of *actual*, don't they? (I ask with quizzical look on my face.)
(180mg x 10 caps = 1800mg = 1.8 gms *actual* EPA.) Wouldn't 16-17 (not 10)
caps be necessary to get the full 3 gms of actual EPA/DHA that's
recommended?
The fish oil I take is 300/200mgs *actual* EPA/DHA per 1,000 mg cap. If I'm
figuring this right (and Gawd knows I may not be), then wouldn't I need to
take 10 of mine to get the full dose? 300 mgs EPA x 10 = 3,000mgs = 3 gms.)
Is this right?

I read somewhere that the optimal dose for mood was 3 grams per day of
actual EPA/DHA. With the average capsule ratio of 180 to 120mg per 1,000 mg
fish oil, this works out at about 10 capsules. I have not read anything
about dose related studies of harm.
