Hi,
This sound VERY similar to a problem I had after adding a hard drive to one
of my systems. After much trial and error troubleshooting, it turned out to
be a power supply that was marginal (mine would hang much as yours does,
w/blank screen, with the addition if you tried to make any BIOS changes, it
would ALWAYS hang on reboot). Replacing the power supply with a larger, name
brand one cured the problem. Athlons (especially over 1Ghz) are power hungry,
and need a good power supply to feed them, preferably 300 watts or more.

HTH,
Peter Hogan
