Kevin,
I've seen the blank screen behavior when the system is misidentifying the
monitor. believe it then produces a signal the monitor can't handle. For
instance, it occurred when an IBM G50 was connected but it identified it as
an IBM G51, which has a slightly different mode table. Try manually
changing the monitor to the correct one, or to a standard monitor type.
The inability to change the color setting sounds more like a video card
driver issue.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Old Computer
I have an old computer that has win 98 on it when it powers up it goes
through all the normal proceedures ok. Comes to win 98 screen then goes
black, I tried changing to 640-480 no luck . It also has 16 bit color
quality only can't change this any Ideas what might be wrong with this. It
has a fresh install of win 98 and it does work on my home monitor. Or I
should say did work on it when I had tower at home it is now at a friends
house with older monitor.
