Yes, it does. The extra wires (actually ground wires) are there to lessen
crosstalk, by rolling the cable up you are putting unrelated signals right
beside each other, precisly what adding the extra wires was supposed to
prevent.

I don't personally know of any tests. In the end it's kind of a moot point,
SATA is already here, give it a year and few motherboards and drives won't
be SATA. TTYL
