Let me clarify something about the "complicated yet elegant technique." When recording the macro, you don't type in the commands; you actual perform them. You must press this sequence of keys:

Ctrl+F   (Hotkey for "Find")
*            (Search string is the asterisk)
Enter    (Press the Enter key to initiate the search)
Esc       (Pres Esc to dismiss the Find dialog)
