As one of the Atlanta Gambians, please allow me echo Mr. Habib Ghanim and
Mrs.Fatou Jahumpa Cessay’s confirmation that YES, indeed a new APRC Branch
has been formed in Atlanta.
To further expand on Mr.Ghanim’s hope that this US branch will be the one
to make good reforms and the necessary policy changes to update their home
party in the Gambia, , it is with this vein that we think that one has the
right to choose and associate him or herself with any party he or she sees
fit be it APRC, UDP, PDOIS or declare themselves Non party affiliates, as I
would consider myself.
However, it is only fitting to understand that ATLANTA GAMBIA should not by
any way be considered a party Partisan community, and we would therefore
like to shed some light on the REALITIES of what is happening on the ground
albeit the realization that further promotion of one’s agenda could
inevitably yield the desired results, and this goes for any party for that
matter.
The realities of the ATLANTA Gambian community could never be better
explained and asserted by those who are the key players, with their evident
incessant efforts to create a community with harmony and desire to remain
an APOLITICAL community. This includes people who although will
occasionally comment on political issues, but rather feel more comfortable
addressing the community without the involvement of politics. We feel that
there are issues facing our community and families we have established here,
and that equal urgency must be given to that.
It was no NEWS that the movement to create an APRC branch was ongoing as
invitations were openly extended by both relatives and close friends for
that matter, but ONE would only know these FACTS if indeed you participate
and give an ear to the daily affairs of the ATLANTA community and NOT by
occasional hidden appearances or a desire to make a name or cyberspace
propaganda .
What is happening in ATLANTA is not to be construed by anyone as a community
which has been won by the APRC, UDP, NRP or any party for that matter , as
we have witnessed the low turnouts at all political meetings held by both
the UDP and former President Jawara.
ATLANTA should rather be regarded as one in which the overwhelming
majority does NOT care about politics, and who better can tell you than the
likes of Pa Sallah Jeng or Mafy who are both former residents of this city.
Having said that I would now like to say that one of the issues Mr.
Momodou Barry vehemently and erroneously disclosed that in Atlanta over 80
percent of Gambians today support President Jammeh is indeed FALSE and hope
that all political parties involved will learn from the facts and
realities. Therefore, it is only fitting and factual to say that MR. Barry
does not have clue about the statistics he quoted, because to the contrary
I would venture to say that less than one percent in the Atlanta Gambian
community is interested in the politics of any party for that matter.
The mood in Atlanta is NOT that of politics, but one which in we want to
remain a peaceful and non political and hope that will have the opportunity
for absentee voting for us to make our choice.
Although, we are fully aware that one has the right to choose and associate
with whomever they want to, we would like all those involved to understand
that as it stands right now, the FACTS and REALITIES of this community is by
far what has been disclosed by those who seem to be either looking for ways
to exploit either the monetary benefits of the APRC or are quickly seeking
recognition.
In closing, we wish any party all the best in their effort to seek
supporters from ATLANTA, and hope that we as a community will be left with
choice to make the fundamental decision of party affiliation.
Best Regards,
Ablie Njie- Lekbi
