You may need to put in a db amplifier on the coax cable (before the modem)
to boost the cable signal. Cat5 cable is good to 300 ft before any signal
issues occur. I doubt you will need anything other than a decent router with
DHCP Server capabilities. If you want to network your printer purchase a
router that can act as a print server as well.
Make sure you release your Ip address from the cable companies router prior
to installing the router. If you don't, the router will not be able to pick
up an IP from the cable company. Open a dos prompt window (command prompt in
windows 2000) and run IPCONFIG /release to perform the ip release, then
install your router.
