Hi -

I'm new to the list and have been recently diagnosed as being gluten
intolerant. I took a couple of weeks to make the change over, but have now
been gluten free for two o three weeks. I am wondering how long it takes
before one can expect to see improvement in one's over all well being after
making the dietary switch. I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in
1993 and have generally speaking, been miserable every single day since
then. Before I got sick, I was in very good shape, strong as a bull and had
tons of energy. Now I am 50 ponds overweight, can't make a fist without
needing a nap and am lucky if I can squeeze two or three productive hours
out of a day. The last few years have been dominated by IBS and migraines
that last for months. I have gone back to school ( to get a MFA in Painting
), and been treated pretty damn badly because of my health issues, and I'm
sure that the stress of that situation hasn't done any me any good either. I
am hoping that this recent diagnosis will prove to be the beginning of
better day for me and my family.

So, what should I expect? Have many of you folks found this diagnosis and
subsequent dietary adjustments to lead to real improvement in quality of
life? My diagnosis was made with a blood test. My number was something like
74 -75, and I was told that the mid 20's is the normal range, but I frankly
had no idea what my doctor was talking about. Do those numbers mean anything
to anyone out there?

Any other newbie suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dave Golden
