On Tuesday 19 March 2002, I will be conducting two half-day pre-conference
workshops on the Windows keyboard-only interface at CSUN 2002 in Los Angeles.

These courses will benefit:

- People with visual, mobility and learning disabilities.
- People with mouse- or keyboard-induced repetitive strain injuries.
- Laptop users who have trouble using built-in pointing devices.
- Anyone wanting to learn faster, more efficient, and easier ways to operate a
Windows-based PC.
- Software/UI developers seeking ideas and inspiration on enhancing
application and OS usability.
- IT professionals, technical support staff, help desk employees.
- Assistive technologists.
- Workplace and educational accommodation professionals.
- Ergonomists, OTs, kineseologists, and other rehabilitation professionals.

1. Improving access to Windows through keyboard-only techniques -
Fundamentals.

Tuesday 19 March 2002, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Marriott: Chicago/Dallas (Computer Lab)

This hands-on session introduces concepts and techniques for operating Windows
by keyboard alone, i.e., without using a mouse, pointing device or MouseKeys.
Topics:

- Fundamental principles of keyboard-only access.
- Universal keyboard commands.
- File management.
- Special considerations for using Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer without
a mouse.

I have taught versions of this course at RESNA 1998, 1999 and 2000. See
comments and evaluations from participants:

2. Improving access to Windows through keyboard-only techniques - Advanced.

Tuesday 19 March 2002, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Hilton: Century A/B

This demonstration session builds on the Fundamentals course to teach
intuitive and counterintuitive techniques to enable keyboard-only users to
work more quickly, accurately and with less energy expenditure. Topics:

- Customizing Windows and to improve keyboard-only access.
- Creating global keyboard shortcuts.
- Using macro software.
- Modifying Windows applications to enhance the keyboard-only interface.

This course include demonstrations, small group work, and large-group
discussions on theoretical and practical approaches to improving keyboard-only
access and the keyboard user interface.

Participants in the Advanced class are encouraged to bring laptop PCs so they
can try techniques as they are introduced.

This is a new course. I offered similar workshops at RESNA 1999 and 2001. See
comments and evaluations from participants:

Cost for CSUN conference attendees:

$279 for both courses.
