What you need is a print server. Either a separate device that you can
connect most any printer to or a printer with a print server built in. You
can probably find a print server for a hundred dollars or so or even cheaper
used.

We have several pc's scattered around the home. They all chat nicely to each
other, share the internet and the printers attached to the various machines.
Cabling is Cat 5 via 10/100 hub and NIC's.
What I'd like to do is add an independent printer to the network. By that I
mean a printer that 'is not' attached to any PC but directly to the network.
Is this possible with my present network?
Any advice will be appreciated
TIA ... Mick
