I lived in the bario in Houston for awhile, trust me, their either was a lot

I worked with a guy who said you could actually hear the gunshots during the
daytime.  He might have been pulling my leg.  I didn't want to find out,
tho!  ;>)

What was traffic like back then?  Did you ever run into any anti-war stuff?
