Technically, they're "spammers" if they send unsolicited commercial email.
My email address has been out in public for a long time, so I get a lot of
spam. June 2002 was my first thousand-spam month. I have posted my
spams-per month statistics (inexorably rising from January 2002 to now) at

My Nigerian Fraud Email gallery now has about 200 different examples:

Another category of email annoyance is viruses. I have received over
1,300 virus emails since the first of the year.
Wait -- Ruth, you're moving? What is going to happen to your beautiful
old house in Vermont?
Larry
