Here at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, we usually
make our own tactile graphics using various methods.

The foil method using the APH tactile graphics kit produces excellent
graphics, but it is quite time consuming and requires artistry, and we rely
on Region IV to create these graphics for our textbooks and state-mandated
assessments:

producer of Nemeth Code and tactile graphics materials including textbooks
and standardized assessments.

One of my colleagues creates beautiful graphics on her computer program,
and we use these images to create many of our raised-line diagrams on
"swell paper" using Matsumoto's stereo-copying system (no longer
available). As someone else pointed out, the paper is the key. We like
American Thermoform's paper as well. We do not like flexi-paper. Some folks
don't like any brands of this type of paper by the way.

If you want to buy someone else's drawings check out:

mathematical and scientific tactile graphics available on-line.

We also have a TIGER graphics embosser and love it. We also have their AGC
(Accessible Graphing Calculator), so it produces some fantastic math graphics.

TIGER Advantage is a personal computer printer that embosses crisp,
high-resolution tactile graphics and Braille. Equipped with a Windows
95/98/NT printer driver, the embosser prints a combination of text and
graphics directly from any Windows application. The text can be printed in
Braille or DotsPlus, and the graphics are represented in tactile form.
TIGER Advantage can print on any media including paper which is 17 inches
wide and up to 50 inches long. The new user-friendly ViewPlus/Duxbury
Braille Translator is bundled with the TIGER Advantage.

A new type of graphic is now appearing in various places. APH gave out some
samples. The company called gh (headed up by Dave Schleppenbach from Purdue
University) will produce copies of whatever you provide for a price. Robert
Jacquiss from the International Braille Research Center is also having
samples from their Tektronix Phaser 300 printer evaluated. They all appear
to be using similar technology.
