There is quite a bit of evidence that diet may be one of either the main
causes and/or treatments of mental illness. It seems mentally ill people
showing illness of any kind (depression, manic depression, schizophrenia,
etc.) also tend to be most succeptible to having some sort've blood sugar
control problem.....with blood sugar going wildly up and down in a
hypoglycemic response fashion or rising and staying high for hours (For more
on this run a search on Robert McFerran and read some of his articles) it
seems paleo style dieting couldn't do anything but help these conditions.
The trick is figuring out what the proper ratio of protein/carbohydrate one
needs in his diet as someone with a high and steady glucose response curve
will tend to do much worse on a stricter high protein/lower carb (typical
paleo) diet whereas the exact same diet will work just well for the
individual with the hypoglycemic glucose response curve.
