Request for information on research on access to international education by
disabled international and home students
An interdisciplinary research project at City University, the United
Kingdom, has looked into the legal and public policy issues in access to
higher education by disabled students since October 1998. A research
project has been set up since June 1999 at
http://www.student.city.ac.uk/~cx639/index.htm and a work in progress
research paper, [Konur, O. (2000) Creating enforceable civil rights for
disabled students in higher education: an institutional theory perspective,
Disability and Society 15(7), pp. 1041-1063, also online at
http://www.student.city.ac.uk/~cx639/dspaper.htm ], published in December
2000 may give further information about the nature and scope of this
researhc project. This project has been self-funded by the hearing-disabled
and language-learning disabled researcher who has also been a disabled
student for the past seven years.
This project has been extended to the research on access to international
education by disabled international and home students. The expected outcome
of the research would be publication of peer-reviewed papers and policy
papers submitted to statutory bodies in the UK, Australia, Europe, and the
US. It is also possible to publish an online resource directory at
http://www.student.city.ac.uk/~cx639/index at the end of the project
segment.

The case law on access to international education by students in general and
by disabled students in particular
The peer-reviewed research papers on access to international education by

The case studies on on access to international education by students in

international students as well as the research on access to international
education by the host country students.
The areas of research may include the funding mechanisms for the study
related costs and disability-related costs, social security benefits,
advisory support offered by the statutory and or voluntary bodies, access to
local national public funding, the coverage of disabled international
students by the host and or foreign country disability law, higher education
law, and social and health service law.

Further enquiries would be welcome as well as any other support help and
guidance.
