  Thanks for your suggestions.  I cleaned underneath the cartridge
holders, particularly the  holder for the black cartridge holder.  I
used Q-tips, water and an air compressor can.  I was able to remove all
the lines striking though the text.  I still have a few smudges from
time to time which I will attempt to remove tomorrow.

Does it do that in every program you print from, or only in certain
program(s)?  Does it do that if you print a test page?  If it only
prints like that in say Word or Wordperfect, it is a software problem.
If it prints a good test page, it is not the printer.  You should check
at www.hp.com and search their knowledge base on this printer for known
software conflicts or for this particular problem.  You might try a
Google search also. This problem is hard to diagnose unless a lister has
the same printer and has had the same or a similar problem.
