If the cdrom is showing in bios when he boots up,
It may be a compatibility problem with the "generic"dos cdrom drivers
on the win98 start disk.
some cdroms don't seem to work on those drivers.
either install the correct dos drivers for his cdrom.
or hook a temp. compatible cdrom to copy the cab files
to the hdrive. Mitsumi Dos cdrom drivers seem to work for most cdroms.
Unless this is an old system he should be able to boot from the Win98 cdrom
assuming it's a bootable factory CD. Just select boot from CD as the first
option
in bios boot order.
