Darla,

I do not know if either of these apply to you, but I am providing this
information I heard about at a conference for folks with food allergeis, in
case it may have any possible connection with your current problems and
quest for answers.

There is one type of food allergy that is non-IgE mediated called Food
Induced Colitis--symptoms include cramping, abdominal pains, and sometimes
bloody diarrhea. This allergy will not be identifiable through the
standard skin testing because it is non-IgE mediated. From what I
understand it is a difficult diagnosis to make because it is primarily
based on ruling out everything else. Avoidance of the allergenic food
alleviates the problem.

Also, there is another type of food allergy called allergic eosinophilic
gastroenteritis. Symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea,
malabsorption, and gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux). Endoscopic
biopsies of the GI tract show eosinophilia. Only 50% of those affected
will have positive skin tests to the allergenic foods that are causing
these symptoms. This is a relatively new diagnosis based on research that
is currently ongoing on the East Coast.
