  More generally, you will need a crossover in the line if connecting
two Layer 3 devices (e.g. PC NICs) or two Layer 1/2 devices (hubs,
switches).  The latter often include a port that is already wired as
a crossover (labelled "uplink").
  You will not need a crossover to connect a Layer 3 device to a
Layer 1/2 device.
