Is there already a server on the LAN?  If not, this is the kind of
job that probably calls for one.  There are various third-party email
systems available to run on Windows, but one of the more powerful and
better supported is Microsoft's own "Eschange Server" product, which
will require either NT Server or Windows 2000 Server.  (The O'Reilly
book on managind Exchange Servers is really excellent.)
  Note that if you want users to be able to use these email
accounts/mailboxes for Internet email as well as internal, you will
need to run a "gateway" service, and although this *can* run on the
mailbox server, the architecture works better if this is a separate
machine.
