I haven't followed this complete thread, but it sounds like the original
poster (Jim) is doing a Start/Shutdow/Restart in dos mode, which is the
third thing on the list of shutdown options if I recall correctly (I'm
running 2000, so I'm not sure).

What he wants to do from there, I have no clue.
