If it is any help, I wouldn't blame the Primer Peripherals CD's as I
have burned multiple ones on a slower system and a 24x burner.  I bought
my burner because it did _not_ come with Roxio and did come with Nero.
 I concur with cabling and software update recommendations.  Tom's
Hardware recently did an evaluation of CD writers.  It was striking how
many manufacturers have discarded Adaptec/Roxio.
