Fellow Computer Users,
I have an aggravating, but not debilitating problem with the MSIE I have
installed on my machine.
Abruptly, I began finding that I could not access any site using my browser.
When I investigated I found that for all three of my DUN connections in the
TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS If found in the "SETTINGS" that all
three were set to use a proxy server. When I unchecked this my browser
performed adequately.
HOWEVER, as long as I do not close out my machine, even if I close my
browser, the correct settings persist, but then every time I reboot my
system the ##** browser is reset to "proxy server".
I have spoken with the technical "experts" at Gateway, I have spoken with
the "experts" at my ISP and they are baffled. Their best recommendation,
which I find unacceptable and a pain in the a**.
is to reinstall my OS.
I have tried reinstalling my internet connections, reinstalling my browser,
but the problem is not so irritating as to prompt me to reinstall my OS.
I have gone into the registry looking for "proxy server" settings, but so
far nothing.
I am using ME on a Gateway 1000, with 256 megs of ram, and a 1.0 meg CPU.
Have any of you a suggestion ?
