Virtually everything in all the responses to this post are possibly
correct. My guess would be that buffer underruns are the problem. Use
control-alt-delete to shut down everything running except explorer and
systray. To avoid this, you could try burning at a lower speed like
4X. If you're burning disk to disk, the slower speed is probably
necessary.
The advice to try different software is excellent. Adaptec/Roxio has
progressively deteriorated from a barely adequate program to almost
junk. Nero is excellent and currently the most frequently updated
program (an important issue as we fly at warp 6 from 24X to 32X to
40X). The interface is hardly as user friendly as Adaptec, but the
software works and that's what counts.
On connections; with 1 HD and 1 CD-RW, HD s/b master on IDE 0, CD-RW
master on IDE 1.
2 HD, 1 CD-RW, almost anything goes, but keep the CD-RW off the IDE with
the HD your images will go to. 1 HD, 1 CD-ROM, 1 CD-RW, HD as master on
IDE 0, CD-ROM as slave on IDE 0, CD-RW as master on IDE 1. 2 HD, 1
CD-ROM, 1 CD-RW. #1 HD on IDE 0 as master, CD-ROM as slave on IDE 0, #2
HD as master on IDE 1, CD-RW as slave on IDE 1. With the last set up,
be sure to copy your images to #1 HD.
I hope that last paragraph wasn't too confusing. If I've confused
anyone with it, I can explain the reasoning behind it (I'd really rather
not).
