I don't know if this is good news, but I had a similar problem with an Acer
CD-R/W. I only found one machine that it would function properly in - an
Acer Aspire! If you still can, I'd return it and purchase another brand
that isn't so restrictive.

I tried to install new Acer CDRW (IDE interface)on several PCs and

The CDRW is automatically installed in the Win98, WinMe and Win2k.
In the Device manager I received the following string: "ATAPI CD-R/RW
10x8x32. However it couldn't read CD disks! It's manual says that
the installation is automated.
