Now, there's some vindication for the Atkins Diet. For what it's worth, as a
teen my total cholesterol went from normal to above 200 (220 or 240, I
think), and that was following more than a year of low fat dieting - at the
time I couldn't have told you the last time butter or an oil had even passed
my lips. Any meats I had were very lean and my diet was largely salads and
some very lean protein. A thyroid supplement helped bring my cholesterol
back down, I believe, as did increasing protein and fat in my diet.
